Cheers,
Mark Southwell.
Paul and Mark Southwell where across the ditch this year, chasing the mighty Wapiti in Fiordland of NZ, but stopped off first at Fran’s Joseph glacier for a couple of days this is where Mark shot a very nice Chamois that scored 21 ¾ DS this whole trip is defiantly no walk in the park with very steep and rugged terrain, and very unpredictable weather, and no place to have and accident, which out ratings director had on the first day, when he slipped and fell 5m straight on his back, only luckily he fell into the creek and the water cushioned his fall somewhat, he was lucky it was not onto the rocks, with a fair size gash in his leg and a few bruises which was the only reminder every day as it was constantly getting bumped for the rest of the trip! This is one ultimate challenge for even very experienced bowhunters like the Southwell’s, as continued on their trip after they drew a good block for the annual Wapiti ballot.
The boys timing was spot on as the they herd many, many Bulls calling, some sounded almost pure, the boys managed to get in on 7 Bulls doing there thing, with Paul being only 10 yards at full draw waiting in a clear shooting lane from a 40”+ thumper to step out into, but the bush was just to thick with only the bulls antlers and tops of their ears visible, just tease them even more, as deer by there nature are unpredictable, the bulls just didn’t step into clear shooting lanes for the boys to get a good shot the whole trip.
Either way they had a good time, I sure they will be going back and I’m sure lady luck with catch the helicopter ride over for the Bulls next time, but congratulations boys for just surviving and Mark on a fine Chamois!
Marc Curtis joined TT with a cracking Hog deer taken in the 2012 season, the highly sort after trophy scored 94 2/8 DS, one very impressive deer and trophy Marc, congratulations from all at TT on one very special trophy and welcome to TT!
Mark Wills has rated a swag of trophies taken from out west of late with a camel that scored 26 4/8 DS and some Billies scoring 116 6/8 and 116 neat, with odd boar or two and few wild feral cats thrown in for good measure, so check them out on there various rating pages for pic’s and there respective scores, again as always Mark very nicely done and congratulations!
Well the silly season has just finished, we will be back with more news in the coming weeks so stay tuned!
Sean Walsh has been amongst as always taking many good trophies of late, the boom time for the western county is still producing some very fine game animals and Sean and his mates are talking full advantage still with some excellent hunting being had! Young Glen Payne has gotten off to a very early start taking down one very elusive velvet buck, on an afternoon hunt the young hunter made the small chip shot from just over 20m to take his PB Fallow Buck which later scored after stripping 228 1/8 DS, awesome effort young man, all of the experienced deer hunters know how hard it is find and fallow buck before the rut let alone to take a trophy of this magnitude this early in the year, we tip our hats to you Glen, very well done and congratulations!
Paul and Mark Southwell joined by Rod Collings, had a short hunt with some great fishing first, and enjoyed an absolutely magnificent Chital hunt after recently, with the boys taking more brilliant trophies, with Mark taking his PB Chital Stag and of course the resident Chital Stag slayer brother who must think they are just like shooting rabbits by now!
Marks PB Stag scored 181 2/8 DS, Paul’s scored big at 185 1/8 DS to add to his 186 3/8 DS Stag that he took only a couple of weeks before the boys joined him, and Rods PB Chital Stag scored in the low 170 not to be left out, impressed we all are at TT still are guys, congratulations on some very tough deer for normal hunters to get close let along of this quality, awesome effort again!
Pascal Savary joined TT with his very nice Billy while hunting and being mentored by fellow TT member Randal Sullings, the PB Billy was taken on one of Randal’s favored hunting spots and was dispatched cleanly with one arrow from 30m, out of Pascal’s modified BowTech Assassin (ask Franken bow builder Peter M about this one) congratulations Pascal and welcome to TT!
Well the real silly season is just around the corner, will be back with more news after the Red and Fallow rut, so good luck to all and straight arrows!
Adam Greentree is no stranger to big trophies, and his recent trip the NT was some of the most exciting and he also took many magnificent trophies with two exceptional bulls taken, with a few good boars thrown in along the way. But Adam has scored another number 1 TT shield by taking the long standing Mark Ballard Bull from 1994 from the top spot! The very impress Bull has scored 108 4/8DS, and Adam backed it up with anther very fine Bull while on that trip that scored 92 2/8 DS, awesome effort Adam! We all at TT congratulate on some excellent trophies and some very fine story telling that also came with it.
Long time member Stuart Hervert and his brother Chris and the gang, Colin Moynihan (Mono) and Rodger Charnock all ventured to the cape again this year the boys had another excellent trip with all taking down several good hogs, but Stuart really brought home the bacon so to speak on this trip, with big old boars becoming harder and harder to find Stuart nailed (many nails) the boar of his dreams and his best so far that scored 31 DS, congratulations Stuart your one lucky camper, well done!
Dave Whiting and old time mate and TT member Wayne Anderson (Ando) ventured out west of late and took some very good Billies on there short trip, the best one of Dave’s went 117 4/8 DS and 114 5/8 DS, not to be left out Ando secured a 109 5/8 DS Billy on the same trip, Ando also ventured far north and secured another awesome boar for his PB also, that scored 30 2/8 DS! Congratulations Ando and Dave on your excellent trophies!
Cameron Bryant secured his first Buff and entered the TT ratings with one very impressive Buffalo that scored 102 4/8 DS, while on a trip to the NT also of late, the big bodied and heavy set bull was taken down with Cameron’s trust Mathews Monster 80# bow, brilliant effort Cameron, and congratulations on one very, very fine trophy!
Josh White rated an excellent and another PB for him with a Fallow Buck. The Red common Buck scored 214 6/8 DS, and is one fine looking trophy their Josh, congratulations from all at TT!
